The completely renovated shop/petit restaurant and coffee corner opened in late 2024 at Treant Scheper Hospital in Emmen. Designed and operated by Vermaat Group and executed by Van Keulen Interieurbouw. Both companies had known each other for some time through the La Place formula, among others, but had never worked together in a hospital. The collaboration has pleased Anouk Lankhof, spatial designer at Vermaat, and tastes like more.

New shop at Treant Scheper Hospital in Emmen heralds further collaboration Vermaat and Van Keulen
‘There is of course no competition in a hospital, but in the context of review economy, an optimal appearance and a positive guest experience is also very important for us in a hospital. Therefore, it was time for a major restyling in Emmen. In such a case, we look at the product range, routing, appearance, the hospital’s house style and much more. In addition, there were different lighting systems and the seating area lacked a sense of security. We started working on this, which resulted in detailed drawings. The materialisation of these ideas and drawings turned out to be in very good hands with Van Keulen. They thought along perfectly and came up with good proposals. Proposals that could also be realised. The fact that they make everything in-house means that what we wanted is actually possible. And that changes along the way are also simply realised within the time schedule.’
‘Nothing is too much, every question is taken extremely seriously and they always think along with us about the best solution, within budget and planning.’

Nothing is too much for Van Keulen
For Anouk, working with Van Keulen was new and she looks back on it with satisfaction. ‘What struck me is that Van Keulen is very customer-oriented. Nothing is too much, every question is taken extremely seriously and they always think along with us about the best solution, within budget and planning. For instance, we built a large new counter at the old location, complete with equipment. If an angle in the existing situation is not quite 90 degrees, this has an annoying effect on a long piece of furniture. This is then simply resolved in the work. And if a couple of doors have to be replaced at the last minute, this is simply done. The result is now a beautiful consistent line in retail furniture with which we can give shop visitors what they want and what they are entitled to in the years to come.’
Good cooperation crucial for maximum results
Precisely because this was the first time Vermaat and Van Keulen had worked together in a hospital, Anouk went to Emmen several times to get a feel for the way they work. ‘And that felt right at the time. Not only with project managers, but also with the people who had to do the physical work, we were able to communicate excellently. If you have the idea and experience in practice that what you come up with behind the drawing board is actually realised in practice, that is the ideal way of working together. I am therefore pleased that the next joint project has now started.’
