Customer Stackmann

Stackmann in Buxtehude (in the immediate vicinity of Hamburg) has a history spanning over a century, and it has always adapted to the changing needs of its customers in that time. What was once a simple clothes shop has now become a lifestyle department store that focuses on providing a complete experience. Throughout 16,000 m2, ladies, gentlemen and children can find everything they need in terms of clothes and accessories for all occasions and activities in life. Toys, books, perfumes and delicacies, for example, are also available.

German department store switches things up with Dutch designer and interior designer

In 2022, 2023 and 2024, Van Keulen Interieurbouw worked on the redesign and restyling of several departments. Together with Usquert-based design agency NOMNOM, Van Keulen Interieurgebouw gave the department store a major turnaround. Where several brands were previously presented as shops within the shop, a boutique look has been now chosen for the higher-end market. Stackmann: ‘We want to bridge the gap between lovers of modern luxury products on the one hand and the classic collection one the other.’ Customers of the completely redesigned women’s and lingerie department feel at ease and pampered by the intimate presentation.

Restructuring with absolute minimum nuisance

Similarly, Stackmann appeared to feel spoilt by Van Keulen’s way of working. German shop builders are used to carrying out material operations on site in the shop for long periods of time. This involves considerable nuisance from dust and noise. But because van Keulen made all components ready for assembly in its own workshops, the actual installation in the shop took significantly less time than usual and caused much less nuisance. We at Van Keulen completely redecorate supermarkets in just one or two weeks, and this was the same for the department store in Buxtehude. And at the end of the day, the rubbish was removed and the floors were swept.

It always starts and ends with the customer

‘We as interior designers treat our clients just like their customers deserve to be treated, too. Their wishes are our starting point and we do everything in our power to ensure a perfect end result. This approach, which is natural to us, proved to be to Stackmann’s liking, in addition to the quality of the work delivered’, says project manager Nico de Jong.
