Nearly every engineering and construction company in the Netherlands knows Technische Unie. This technical wholesaler is the market leader in the Netherlands, with branches all over the country where business clients can find installation material. From electrical engineering and lighting to tools, sanitary, heating and climate technology. The assortment includes over 280,000 products from more than 700 suppliers.

Bigger than before

Technische Unie supplies to companies in the installation sector, construction, industry and retail. Clients from all over the north of the Netherlands can now visit a logistic centre in Zwolle. “We’ve opened a brand new branch in Zwolle, including a regional office and service centre,” explains Raoul Jaggoe, Formula Manager at Technische Unie.

“This service centre is much bigger than usual and covers an area of 1700 m2. This is because we have expanded our assortment to respond to the needs of our clients. Imagine, you are a central heating engineer and you have to break open a wall to install the cables. You then need tools to close the wall again. In our old location, we were surrounded by businesses like construction material wholesalers which sold such complementary products. Our clients could visit them for all the other equipment and tools they needed for a job. At our new location, however, there are no ‘competitor colleagues’, so our clients would have to drive around unnecessarily. So we’ve now included such materials in our assortment.”

Space, brand and house style

A wider assortment obviously requires more space. The company approached Van Keulen Interieurbouw to develop the inventory and the furniture. A fairly obvious choice, says Jaggoe. “We’ve used racking from Van Keulen Interieurbouw for years. They are flexible suppliers with whom we have a great relationship.” Jaggoe is particularly pleased with the advice he was given. “We weren’t entirely clear what type of racking we needed. The new building is quite a bit taller and we wanted our brand image and house style to be reflected in our interior design. That gave me quite a headache. But Van Keulen Interieurbouw showed us various solutions, and we had one of them built as a test. That test put my mind at rest. I was very pleased with it. The company really provided great input.”
